im lost for a xmas gift for my father, im giving him 500.00 for xmas. but he does not like clothes he wont get none of that stuff. so i thought maybe i would put the money in like a gift certificate at his bank. can that be done. he is 75years old i have know idea of what to get him. if i give it to him in cash he would pay bills or spend it on me.that hurts my feelings.

No, banks do not sell gift certificates. Some of them sell American Express Gift Checks, which are like traveller’s checks. You can spend them almost anywhere.

Get several gift cards from major retailers which you think he would like. You could divide it into $100 cards for, say, Sears or JC Penneys, Barnes & Noble, any restaurant cards, etc.

Better yet pay for a housekeeping service for him with the $500.00. If he lives by himself, that would be great.
