Gift Certificates
Sublimetink asked:

Every year I go crazy trying to find the perfect gift for everyone on my list. Is it okay to just hand out gift cards or will I look lazy? I know I love gift cards but sometimes they seem impersonal.

Hawaii4me asked:

I am wanting to send a gift card to someone’s Myspace email account. Do you know if this is possible? Do you know which companies would allow this? For example, could I send an Olive Garden gift card to their email and they could download it and use it or claim it at a local Olive Garden?

Gift Coupon
Taxman1040 asked:

I have a pile of coupons that could be redeemed for useful household items such as can openers and small clocks. This seems to work like the old green stamps from years ago; you made a purchase and received free coupons based on the dollar amount of the purchase. When enough coupons were saved, you sent them in for the gift you wanted. The name on the coupons is the United Gift Coupon Company. They look like play money and measure about 2″ x 4″. They are in denominations of 1/4, 1, 5, and 10. I can find absolutly nothing on the web concerning the company, its history, or its demise. Can anyone help?

Are gift certificates really the solution?

I’m always stressed in the two weeks preceding the holidays. I’m not a terribly creative or empathetic person so gift-giving is difficult for me. I was just going to get gift certificates for the people i’m expected to give a gift to.

Then I realized the classic “gift” is never to be given with the price tag on it. GC’s are accurate to the cent in telling that someone what they were worth to you this year.

Any thoughts?

Bonus question: Is it better to round to the fifth or tenth dollar with a gift certificate?
